Why a Cyberjournal?

The founders of the Asia-Pacific Cybereducation Journal are to be commended for taking this bold forward step. The "Cyberjournal" is the latest development in the long history of the dissemination of information through space and time which began with the advent of the written word. In particular, the printing press with its power of duplication initiated the long process of the democratization of knowledge.

But due to the expense of printing and limited means of distribution, the products of the press were available only to a fortunate few. With the development of better printing, communication and transportation technologies, information became almost universally available. Scholarly journals became a prime means of disseminating information within the academic community.

But the lag between acceptance of a manuscript and its publication is a constant source of frustration among scholars. The cyberjournal can go a long way toward eliminating that frustration: acceptance and publication can be virtually simultaneous. Furthermore, reactions from, and dialogue among, readers do not have to wait until the next issue is published. I am eagerly anticipating being a "subscriber."
